Our huts

Each hut is individual, designed to the specific requirements of our customers.  We provide small but important options including a hand painted plaque created by a local artist.  The décor and finishing are in accordance with each customer’s specification.

Despite the individuality, all of our huts have the same basic build.  Starting from the roof;  this is made of curved plastic coated corrugated metal manufactured by Hornsey Steel in Bucknell, 3 miles from Squire Farm.  The outer larch timber comes from Ransfords of Bishops Castle.   All framing and internal timbers are supplied by John Payne from Aston on Clun or KBM of Knighton.  Windows and doors are made of Sapele hardwood and double glazed.  The insulation is of treated sheep’s wool is supplied by Celtic Sustainables of Cardigan.  The metal chassis parts are fabricated by J Francis of Milebrook near Knighton. The oak chassis is from Cowley Timber and the wheels are cast at a foundry in Banbury.

Where we can we obtain materials locally and only go further afield to ensure that there is no compromise on quality. Our aim is to uphold the ethos of sustainability.

We will have three Shepherd Huts here at Squire Farm located in an idyllic setting with plans to create a wild swimming pool, natural hot tub and an area to relax and enjoy a barbeque or sit next to the fire pit.  This provides a unique opportunity for potential customers to try before they buy.

Our Shepherd Huts can be made to a size specified by each customer. Our standard hut has internal dimensions of 2.1m x 5.01m. The hut has a wet room with electric shower and wash hand basin.  A compost loo removes the need for sewage disposal as all grey water can be drained to a soak-away.  The living area has a full size double bed that can be raised and lowered to reveal the dining table and bench seating.  A variant on the standard double is to add two bunk beds that convert to a bench seating during the day. A fully functional kitchen designed to customer specification is an option as is the provision of a wood burning stove.  Many little touches provide additional storage for all your needs.

Internal finishing can be modified to suit your needs.  Choose from painted or varnished tongued and grooved, Melamine coated boards or even ferrous and non ferrous metals.  We can add beams, dado rails and skirting.

Water and electricity services are all fitted by professionals and fully tested before delivery.  Internal and external lighting decisions are those of the client.  The standard specification for plumbing can be modified to suit your needs.
